Mansfield Advertiser, November 1929 Preston's Inc. to Open Next Friday Morning a Large Department Store in the R.W. & M.F. Rose Co. Location Mansfield's New Store will be opened by Preston's, of Canton, next Friday. As noted before in these columns, they bought the R.W. & M.F. Rose Co. store and have repaired and renovated it from cellar to roof. For several days large stocks of merchandise have been coming from all point, and Mr. John J. Preston and employees have been busy arranging it for the opening Friday. space is too limited to enumerate the kinds of stock to be carried and we refer you to their ad on another page of the Advertiser. They plan to keep this store open Friday evening from 7 to 9 for the benefit of those who could not come in the day time. Friday evening all connected with the Canton store will meet with those of the Mansfield store for dinner at Hotel Smith. Covers will be laid for fourteen, as follows: From Canton, Miss Josephine Nailen, Miss Ollie Woodcock, Miss Lena Williams, Mr. John Moody, Mr. Max Manley, Mr. and Mrs. J.J. Preston; From Mansfield: Mr. and Mrs. R.E. Swingle, Miss Bessie Howe, Miss Agnes Woodhouse, Mr. Kenneth Cady. They have erected one of the finest electric signs in this vicinity, being one of the new neon-lamp gas electric signs. The Prestons came to Mansfield with a high reputation from Canton, where they have always lived, Mr. J.J. Preston, who will be in charge here, was for some time been a member of Corey Creek Golf Club and is known to Mansfield golfers. His business acquaintance with the people of Mansfield and vicinity will undoubtedly prove him as well liked as in Canton. |
