Thompson, of West Des Moines, Iowa, announce the marriage of their daughter, Beverly Jane, to Lt. [j.g.] Franklin H. Alden, U.S.N.R., son of Mr. & Mrs. F.N. Alden, of Emporium, formerly of Mansfield. The marriage took place at 3 p.m. October 18, in a chapel on the Navy base of Alameda, Cal. Lt. [j.g.] J.A. Carruth, chaplain, read the service. Lt. ComRay Ross gave the bride in marriage. She was a rose crepe gown trimmed with white sequins, with white accessories and corsage of lavender orchids and bouvardia. Lt. & Mrs. Lee M. Blodgett, were attendants. Mrs. Blodgett wore a beige gown with fuchsia accessories and corsage of gardenias. Mrs. Alden, who was graduated from Valley High School and attended Drake University, is employed by Davidson' Co., Des Moines. Lt. Alden, who was graduated from high school in Mansfield, is a Navy pilot. Find a Grave Cpt. [SRGP 85592] -Captain Franklin Alden passed away peacefully on Aug. 15, 2019 at age 95, in Palm Bay, Fla., surrounded by his loving family. He will be missed. Franklin Henry Alden was born to Franklin and Bertha Warters Alden. He entered the Navy after graduation from high school. Captain Franklin Alden entered the Naval Flight program in 1942 and was graduated in 1944. Upon graduation he was attached to various Fighter Squadrons. In 1944 he was attached to Admiral Mitchner's staff as a photo reconnaissance pilot. It was during this time he was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and his first Air Medal. After World War II he returned to the University of Pennsylvania to complete his college education. He served during World War II, the Korean War and Vietnam. Captain Alden made the U.S. Navy his career and he enjoyed it, retiring in 1971. Franklin was a graduate of Mansfield High School, Class of 1942. He was a master carver, teaching some carving classes in Coudersport. He also was instrumental in founding the Allegheny Mountain Carvers Club. He was a life member of the Bucktail Rod and Gun Club and he loved to build and fly model airplanes. He was a 53-year member of the Masons, a member of the NRA, the American Legion, VFW and several Navy-sponsored organizations. He is survived by his wife, Patricia Frank Alden; one daughter, Deborah Romanowski (Pete), Barefoot Bay, Fla.; three grandchildren, Amanda Jones (Joe), Benjamin Miller, and Rachel Brehm, all of Emporium, Pa.; six great-grandchildren; four stepchildren, Richard Frank (Carole), Wellsboro, Pa., Daniel Frank (Maria), Wellsboro, Pa., Cindy Frank, Barefoot Bay, Fla., and Tina Reese (Tom), West Melbourne, Fla.; 12 step-grandchildren and seven step-great-grandchildren; and a brother, Francis Alden, Decatur, Ga. Franklin was preceded in death by his first wife, Beverly Jane Thompson Alden; a son, Thomas Alden; his parents, Franklin and Bertha Warters Alden; two sisters, Virginia Lindquist, and Irene Coveny; and a brother, George Alden.
