BENEDICT, Byron R. (SRGP 12823) Age 86 of Wellsboro RR2 died Wednesday, March 1, 2000, at Broad Acres Health and Rehabilitation Center, Wellsboro. Born Jan. 20, 1914, in Whitneyville, he was the son of Floyd and Hazel Carpenter Benedict. He was a graduate of Mansfield High School and Elmira Business College, Elmira, NY. He was a dairy farmer near Roseville for over 14 years, was office manager for Johnson Truck Lines, Mansfield, was bookkeeper for the former Ike Harvey Tractors in Canoe Camp and he owned and operated Benedict Ford Tractor and School Busing of Wellsboro RR2 for several years. He was a member of the Whitneyville United Methodist Church where he served as parish treasurer for many years; a member of the Wellsboro Saddle clubs; Grand Canyon Camping Club; and Wellsboro Rotary Club, where he dedicated many years in holding their annual chicken barbecue. Preceding him in death were his first wife, Eloise Benson Benedict, in August 1985; and one brother, Truman. Surviving are his second wife, Florene Hunter Benedict, whom he married January 1986; two sons and daughters-in-law, John and Marlea Benedict of Wellsboro and Robert and Cynthia Benedict of Mansfield; one daughter, Nancy Benedict, of Warrenton, Mo; one sister Doris Clark of Mansfield; two granddaughters, Tammy Mengee and Maria Benedict; and one grandson, Tyler Benedict. Calling hours were held Tuesday, March 7, at the Tussey- Mosher Funeral Home, Wellsboro. Funeral services were held there Wednesday, March 8, with the Rev. Bernie Wynn and the Rev. John Dramazos officiating. Burial was made at Prospect Cemetery, Mansfield. Memorial donations may be made to the Child Evangelism Fellowship Inc., P.O.
