BROWN - Rev. Badon Brown, 72, of Aiken, SC, died Friday, Oct. 17, 2003 at Aiken, SC. A man for all seasons, he was best known in Aiken as a hunter and outdoorsman. Yet, prior to coming to Aiken in 1999, he was known as an outstanding preacher who spoke all over the world and was responsible for bringing the gospel message to thousands. He was born Dec. 6, 1930 in Mainesburg to Josephine Nash Brown and Hamilton Wesley Brown. He grew up on a farm in Mansfield, leaving to go to New York City where he graduated Suma Cum Laude from Shelton College, majoring in Greek and Hebrew. He attended Faith Seminary in Philadelphia and Westminster Seminary where he pursued a mater’s degree in theology. His further education included doctoral studies in psychology. All the while he worked as a short-order cook and bus driver in New York, painted houses and later managed a meat packing plant and an interior design studio. He said those jobs were what gave him his "pastor’s heart." He finished Mansfield Senior High School in 1948 and was the much-loved pastor of Austinville Union Church in Austinville. He was dearly loved by those in whose churches he served [both small and large churches in PA and NJ]. In Michigan he was senior pastor of Highland Park Baptist Church in Southfield, Mich., where he founded Southfield Christian School. At that time is was the largest conservative Baptist church in the nation. He was also a founding pastor of Rolling Hills Baptist Church in Fayetteville, GA. He was a member of the executive board of the Southern Baptist Convention of New Jersey. Rev. Brown was a member of First Baptist Church, North Augusta, Green Boundary Club, Houndslake Country Club, Carolina Star Gun Club, Safari Club International and the National Rifle Association. He was a patron of the Aiken symphony, Aiken Friends of Opera, Aiken Civic Ballet and Aiken Center for the Arts. Surviving are his wife, Sharon Marr Brown; sister, Sheila Crittenden; daughter, Debra Malone; son-in-law, Robert Malone; son, David O. Brown, daughter-in-law, Jane Brown; son, Brian H. Brown; son’s fiancée, Shari Simmontacchi; step-son, Lt. Col. Brian E.M. Johnson, daughter-in-law, Cindy Johnson; 13 grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and lots of dear friends.
