Served 14 June 1918 - 25 June 1919 Served Overseas 14 July 1918 - 19 June 1919 Battery C 78 Field Artillery BRYAN, Ross E. [SRGP 07705] - Ross E. Bryan, prominent Mansfield businessman, died Sunday, April 24, 1949, at 11 p.m. at his home on Extension Street. Death was caused by a heart attack. a son of Fred and Bertha Shaw Bryan, he was born July 28, 1892, at Elmira, and spent his boyhood in Mainesburg and Chandlersburg, where his father operated a blacksmith shop. August 28, 1919, he married Miss Jane Marquis Reno, of Swissvale, and they resided at Swissvale, where he owned and operated the Swissvale Auto Service Company until 1928, when he went to Oakmont and was associated with W.H. Keister in the Bryan & Keister Corp. for five years. In 1933 he came to Mainesburg and was employed as a salesman for the Mansfield Novelty Company until 1937, when he took a position in the same capacity with F.P. Case & Son of Troy. During World War II he was employed in defense work with the Norden Plant in Elmira and Billard's at Mansfield. Since the war he has been associated with United Laboratories, Inc., of Cleveland, Ohio, and the Martin Steel Products Corp., of Mansfield, Ohio. He had been a resident of Mansfield since 1936. Mr. Bryan was inducted into the Army June 4, 1918, and served overseas with Battery C, 78th Field Artillery. He received an honorable discharge June 28, 1919. He was a member of the Methodist church, a past commander of Austin-Cox Post, American Legion; past master of Friendship Lodge F&AM, a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, Mansfield Business Men's Association, Lions Club, and the Emanon Club. Besides his wife, he is survived by a son, Ross, Jr., of Prospect Park, PA; daughter, Miss Eleanore Bryan, elementary vocal music teacher in the schools of Stroudsburg, and a brother Elmer Bryan of Augusta, GA. Funeral services were held today at 1:30 p.m. at the Shaw & Robena Funeral Home, Rev. Floyd E. Guiles, pastor of the Methodist Church and Rev. Lester Schaff, of Elmira, officiating.
