CASE, Marsha - Marsha Case Henderson, most recently of Ridgefield, CT, died on Monday, November 14, 2022, in the presence of her family. She moved to Ridgefield from Yorktown Heights, NY in May of 2021. She was a resident of Yorktown Heights for 50 years. She was 84 years old. Marsha was born March 1, 1938, in Mansfield, PA to Chester and Elsie Case. Mansfield was an enormous part of Marsha's identity, as her time there was filled with family and friends. She remained in close contact with childhood friends and her beloved cousins. Marsha left home to attend the Harrisburg Polyclinic School of Nursing, where she graduated with her RN in 1959. She received a BSN in 1962 from Wilkes University. She worked for the American Red Cross doing disaster relief and ultimately married and had children. Her career as a nurse was reignited once her two children, Scott and Julie, were in elementary school. She became a school nurse and worked in Yorktown Public Schools until her retirement in 2002. Marsha went on to earn a Master of Public Health at the New York Medical College in 1995. She became a strong advocate for school nursing and public health, ultimately becoming a NY State Nurses Association member and working to develop the New York State Association of School Nurses. Marsha was named School Nurse of the Year for NY State in 1989, and her leadership within NYSASN led to great friendships and personal and professional growth. Marsha enjoyed travel, quilting, reading, and her church, First Presbyterian Church of Yorktown. A member for over 17 years, Marsha was very active in the life of the church community, serving as both an elder and a deacon, as well as participating in many Faith4Life groups, caring ministries, and mission opportunities. In addition, she served on the Board of Directors of the Field Home - Holy Comforter in Yorktown for many years. She was a volunteer gardener on Constitution Island (NY), and an usher at Caramoor Center for Music and the Arts, feeding her passion for live music of all kinds. She was a proud member of her local PEO chapter. She was a member of the Northern Westchester Quilt Guild and offshoots like Fifth Tuesday, creating "comfort quilts" for children in need, along with stunning quilts for friends and family. Marsha scolded those who chose to retire early, saying that her 50s, 60s, and 70s were decades filled with positive professional and personal growth. Always strong and independent, Marsha never wanted to be beholden to others, preferring to be the one who was providing for family and friends. Her last years were sometimes marked by frustration as her body deteriorated but her mind -- and will -- remained strong. Her last year and a half at Ridgefield Station was filled with meaningful friendships and a stimulating, kind, and loving community. Marsha was predeceased by her parents, her brother David, and her husband Allan F. Henderson. She is survived by her daughter Julie (Michael) and grandchild Mallory, her son Scott, and her grandchildren George and Claire. Marsha will be missed by her family and many friends.
