Mansfield Advertiser, PA, 27 January 1943, Wednesday, p.10 McConnell---Corey Lt. Arthur J. Corey, of Westover Field, Mass., son of Frank Corey, of Canton, and Miss Bernice McConnell, daughter of Mr. & Mrs. R.A. McConnell, Mainesburg, were married at the Methodist Church in Mainesburg, at 8 p.m. Jan. 21, 1943. Pfc. Robert M. Purvis, Camp Young, CA, was best man, Miss Mary Richmond, Mainesburg, bridesmaid, Phyllis Isaacs, Canton, niece of the bridegroom, flower girl; Donald McConnell, brother of the bride and Jack Strange were ushers. The church was decorated with flags and evergreens and lighted with candles. After the ceremony a reception was held at the home of the bride’s parents. Corey, 91, of Granby Road, died December 8, 2003, in Holyoke Medical Center. Born August 16, 1912 in Mansfield, PA, he was the son of the late Frank and Effie [Hall] Corey. He was a 1930 graduate of Mansfield High School. He moved in 1950 to South Hadley. He was a US Army veteran of World War II. Mr. Corey worked in the supply department at TiteFlex Co., retiring in 1991. Earlier he had worked as a carpenter for several area contractors. He was a member of United Methodist Church in South Hadley. He was a Scoutmaster for 30 years for Boy Scout Troop 302 and Cub Scout Troop 33. He had been a member since the 1960s of the South Hadley Memorial Day Committee and belonged to the Massachusetts Tri-County Bowling Association. He enjoyed caring for his dogs. He leaves his wife of 61 years, Bernice [McConnell] Corey; a son, James A. Corey; and a daughter, Jacqueline Reardon, both of South Hadley; five grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Memorial gifts may be made to the Student Assistance Fund, United Methodist Church, 30 Carew St., South Hadley, 01075, or to any charity. The funeral will be Thursday at 5:30 p.m. at Ryder Funeral Home in South Hadley. Burial will be at a later date.
