DANN, Thomas Ralph [SRGP 91293] – Largo – Thomas Ralph Dann, whose Tom’s Barber Shop on East Bay Drive marked its 25th anniversary June 1, died Monday [Sept. 2, 1985]. He was 61 and lived at 15695 Bedford Circle E., Largo, FL. Mr. Dann opened his shop at 3151 East Bay Drive, just west of Fulton Drive, in 1960 when Largo’s population was 5,302. "I liked this area because it was so quiet and remote," he told a Times reporter in May. Largo’s population is now nearly 63,000, and Mr. Dann said he and his wife, Donna, were considering a move to the Blanton area of Pasco County. But any move would have had to wait until his daughter, Laurie, finished her senior year at Pinellas Park High School, where she is an outstanding diver. She recently won four gold medals, a silver and a bronze at the Sunshine State Games. Mr. Dann was born in Mansfield, PA, and moved here in 1959 from Elmira, NY, where he had been a barber for 11 years. He was a member of Star Lodge 778 F&AM, Largo, and American Legion Turner-Brandon Post 7, Clearwater. He was a World War II Army veteran. Survivors besides his wife and daughter Laurie include another daughter Jarilyn Waits, Tarpon Springs; a son Thomas E., San Antonio; his mother Hildred Dann, Clearwater; three sisters, Ruth Carlson, Clearwater, Marie Cunningham, Mansfield, and Arlene Kingsley, Millerton, PA, and two grandchildren. The National Cremation Society of Clearwater handled arrangements. – Tampa Bay Times, St. Petersburg, FL, 4 September 1985, Wednesday, p.72 |
