DECKER, AMBROSE R. (SRGP 76952) Ambrose R. Decker, 72 years old, died at his home in North Main Street, Sunday morning, November 1, 1924. His funeral was held Tuesday afternoon at two o’clock at his late home, Rev. Fred Simmons, of Mansfield M.E. church officiating; burial was in Prospect cemetery. Mr. Decker was always in business here, after his marriage to Dora M. Nelson, October 18, 1872. He was proprietor of the Sash and Blind factory for years and numerous homes in this village, Wellsboro, Blossburg, Covington and Elkland have windows and trimmings sawed by his hand or under his direction. He engaged in the coal business here and for more than 35 years has been one of the leading dealers of the county. For the last year Mr. Decker had been unable to be at his office, but his wise counsel has guided the business. Many families can attest to the generosity of Mr. Decker in his coal business. Times without number he has sent fuel to families in need and never has one of these deliveries found entry in his books. He was honest in his dealings and lenient at all times. He was generous with his employees, and a loving indulgent father. While he did not enroll in membership with any church, his belief in a divinity and teachings of a hereafter was sublime. Prayer and the Golden Rule were paramount in his living. And he never was heard to express fear of death, but was ready for the call. Fifty-two years ago Tuesday, Mr. Decker cast his first vote and it was a presidential election; he was buried November 4, during a presidential election. Six children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Decker, all living today; Edith Robinson Lamb, Leah Davey, Fred, Dana, of Mansfield; Eva Cook, of Canisteo, and Ida Sherwood, of this place. But two deaths had entered the Decker family prior to the decease of Mr. Decker, and these were grandchildren in infancy. The six children and two grandchildren were bearers at the funeral, and surely no parent ever was borne to rest by more tender and loving sympathy. Flowers were beautiful and profuse, and the large number of friends attending the funeral emphasized the keen and deep regard accorded Mr. Decker by all who knew him. For years Mr. Decker was superintendent of Farm Products and Farm Implements departments of the Mansfield fair, and no man derived more satisfaction because of continued progressiveness of the fair than did Ambrose Decker. For ten years Mr. Decker had suffered from a severe form of heart trouble - angina pectoris. At times his sufferings have been severe and again he would get along without any visible pain. Death came to him as a result of a general collapse physically, surrounded by his children. Loving and constant care attended Mr. Decker, he often saying he wanted to be at home with Dora, in preference to the associations of a hospital. Those from out of town who were in Mansfield to attend the funeral of Mr. Decker Tuesday were Mr. and Mrs. R. J. Cook and daughters, Virginia and Mona, of Canisteo, N.Y.; Mr. and Mrs. John Miller and Miss Mary Miller, of Coudersport; Mr. and Mrs. Lyons, Mr. and Mrs. George Demey, Mr. and Mrs. N.S. Way, Mrs. Harold Barlow, James Way and Mrs. Rose Comfort, of Binghamton; Mr. and Mrs. K. I. Bellows and two daughters, Lillian and Mary, of Knoxville; Mrs. Ross Rundell and Mrs. Emma Jones, of Elmira. Ambrose R.
