Elizabeth Doughton = 81030 Mansfield Advertiser, PA, 16 February 1944, Wednesday, p.1 Doughton-Kelts Miss Elizabeth Jane Doughton, daughter of Dr. & Mrs. Isaac Doughton, of Mansfield, became toe bride of Flight Officer Morgan Kelts, son of Mr. & Mrs. A.B. Kelts, of Westfield, Thursday evening, Feb. 10, 1944. The ceremony was performed at the home of the bride's parents, on Sherwood St. by the Rev. D.J. Griffiths in the presence of the two families and a few friends. The Wedding March from Lohengrin was played by Miss Eleanor Wood, of Knoxville, at the piano, and Miss Elizabeth Wetmore, of Wellsboro, sang several solos. Both are college classmates of the bride. The bride, given in marriage by her father, was gowned in white satin and chiffon with a seed pearl trim, the model following princess lines with a long neckline and long tapering sleeves, while the full skirt flared to form a train. Her fingertip veil fell from a wreath of orange blossoms and she carried a white prayer book. Mrs. James Pruyne, of Milan, and Mrs. Harold Schanbacher, of Liberty, sisters of the bride, were attendants. Mrs. Pruyne was gowned in pink and wore orchid accessories. Mrs. Schanbacher's gown was purple with pink accessories. Both wore corsages of pink roses and lavender stocks. The bridegroom's father was best man. The bride's mother wore a navy blue crepe ensemble with a corsage of red roses. Mrs. Kelts chose a powder blue crepe dress and also wore red roses. A reception followed the ceremony, after which the couple left for a short wedding trip. Mrs. Kelts is a student in the music department at the State Teachers College, where her father is a member of the faculty. Flight Officer Kelts graduated from the Army Air Forces Bombardier School at Carlsbad, New Mexico, Fe. 5. Before entering the service he attended the State Teachers College. Out-of-town guests included Mr. & Mrs. A.B. Kelts and sons, Richard, Robert and Larry, Mr. & Mrs. Arnold Bush and Andrew O'Lemich, of Westfield; Mrs. Earl Teter, aunt of the bride, Brooklyn, NY; Mr. & Mrs. James Pruyne, of Milan; Mr. & Mrs. Schanbacher and children, Margaret, Martha and Bill, of Liberty; Mrs. Allan Doughton, of Elmira. DOUGHTON, Elizabeth Jane [SRGP 81030] - Elizabeth Jane Doughton Kelts, born January 26, 1925, died August 5, 2017 at 92, in Nashville, TN, where she had recently moved with her daughter. She has gone now to be with her husband, the love of her life, Morgan Kelts, who died in 1986. She loved him deeply and missed him equally. Betty was a devoted and loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. Her survivors include daughters Elizabeth Ann Dickerson, Susan Stolz, and Meegan [David] Hughes, as well as Grandchildren Ceridwen [Keith] Stermer, Lorian [Richard] Andrews, Lissa Stolz, Evan [Lren] Stolz, Dave Ericson [Tammy] and Great Grandchildren Ceinwen [Tom Aldrich] Morgan, Bronwyn, and Rhys Stermer, Dencan, Deane and Adele Andrews, David, Angel, and Luke Ericson, and Great-great Grandchildren Wessly, Brady and Teigen Aldrich, Armani Vongdara and Cristian and Sierra Rivers. She is also survived by her brother Richard [Beverly] Doughton and predeceased by sons-in-law Cliff and Gary. Betty was extremely proud of her family and spoke with them and of them at every opportunity. Born to Welsh parents, music was the center of her life. She was an accomplished vocalist and keyboardist, spending several years playing the church organ & directing the choir and later singing in the choir. She fostered the same love of music in each generation of her family, accompanying, encouraging, guiding and educating them. She loved attending family recitals, symphonic performances and musical theatre, usually with a grandchild or great grandchild beside her. In the same way, she shared her love of books, reading voraciously up to the time of death, encouraging her family to read and challenging them with book discussions and reviews. Second only to her family was her church, St. John Episcopal where she was a member for 65 years, serving as children choir director, vestry members, Senior and Junior warden, church school teacher, altar guild member, choir member and ECW member. She also visited the homebound and hospitalized until she was 80. Along with her years as a Scout leader, PTA member, organizer and accompanist for the Junior Music Club and the Senior Citizens choir, Eastern Star and hospital volunteer, she worked as office manager and secretary for BOCES for over 30 years. Her family and many friends will miss her greatly. A memorial service is planned for a later date. Her family encourages you to remember her best by doing something especially nice for someone else today. - The Ithaca Journal, Ithaca, NY, 17 August 2017, Thursday, p.A8 |
