EVANS, Ralph - Ralph H. Evans, 91, of Mansfield, passed on Wednesday, Dec. 30, 2015. Born on July 5, 1924, in Charleston, Ralph was the son of Harry W. and Leah M. (Goodwin) Evans. In 1949 he married Betty Jean Cleveland, his loving wife of 53 years.Owner of Ralph's Service Center since 1946, Evans served the community of Mansfield as a devoted businessman and leader. An active member of the Mansfield Borough Council, he was the organization's president for eight years. He directed the Mansfield Chamber of Commerce, chaired the Tioga County Industrial Development Authority, and served on the executive board of the Tioga County Borough Association, the Industrial Betterment Organization of Mansfield, and the Williamsport Area Community College Advisory Board.In addition to membership in local organizations, Ralph held positions on a number of state-level commissions, serving as a member of the Pennsylvania State Ethics Commission and as director and vice president of the Pennsylvania Industrial Development Authority. Named by Time magazine as the Pennsylvania "New Car Dealer of the Year," Ralph became president of both the Pennsylvania Auto Dealers Association and the Pennsylvania Truck Dealers Association. For his outstanding service as an automotive dealer, Ralph received Ford's Distinguished Achievement Award and Distinguished Service Citation.Ralph also enjoyed serving community members in other ways. Ralph was a 60 year member and Past Master of Friendship Lodge # 247 F&AM and a life member of Williamsport Consistory.A recipient of the Silver Beaver award, he served as president of the General Sullivan Council of the Boy Scouts of America for three years. An avid golfer, Ralph was also president of Corey Creek Golf Course and a 50-year member of Lone Camp Fishing and Hunting Club.Ralph is survived by four children and their spouses, R. John Evans of Utica, N.Y., James and Susan Evans of Reading, Judith Evans of Mansfield, Jeffrey and Kathleen Evans of Mansfield; 11 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.He is predeceased by his wife and a granddaughter, Alison Evans. A lover of early morning coffee at Eddie's Restaurant, Ralph will be missed by his many friends and family, including his canine pal, Charlie.Friends are invited to call on Sunday, Jan. 3 from 2 to 5 p.m., at the Gary Wilston Funeral Home 130 S. Main St. Mansfield. Friendship Lodge #247 F&AM will conduct services there Sunday at 5 p.m. Burial will be in Welsh Settlement Cemetery.
