FARRER, John E. [SRGP 73148] – John E. Farrer, aged 77 years, of Mansfield, died Saturday morning at his home. He was a son of William and Elizabeth Edwards Farrer and was born Aug. 23, 1862 at Liberty, PA. June 20, 1891 he married Miss Kittie Elliott, of Mansfield, who died in 1923. Mr. Farrer for many years was a member of the hardware firm of Reese & Farrer and for 15 years resided on his farm near Mansfield. He was a steward at the former Mansfield State Normal School for five years, a member of the Borough Council for 12 years and for 13 years was associated with his son in the News Room. He was an Elder of the Presbyterian church, a Past Master of Friendship Masonic Lodge, member of Zebulum Chapter, Royal Arch Masons and Coudersport Consistory. He is survived by his son, Philip, of Mansfield; three grandchildren, Mrs. Mary Townsend, John and Thomas Farrer; a great granddaughter, Phyllis Townsend, of Mansfield; a sister, Mrs. Libbie Williams, of Wellsburg. Funeral services were held Monday, Rev. A.W. Lenz, officiating. The Masons conducted the services in Prospect cemetery at Mansfield. – Wellsboro Agitator, June 5, 1940, p.6 |
