Charles A. Holden, oldest son of Isaac Holden, was born in Mansfield, Tioga county, December 30, 1849.He was educated in the common schools and the State Normal School. After arriving at manhood, he a practical knowledge of business as a clerk in Mansfield and Blossburg. On August 12,1879, he embarked in business for himself in Mansfield, where he opened a fruit and confectionary store, which he has successfully conducted up to the present. Mr. Holden married Catherine A. Dorsett, a daughter of P. R. and Sophronia Dorsett, of Mansfield. [Tioga County History 1897 p 1052] Find a Grave Charles A. Holden – d. 11 December 1920, Corning, NY; Death Cert. #71732 HOLDEN, Charles A. [SRGP 65703] – Charles A. Holden, for 13 years proprietor of the Holden Hotel in Corning, died at 1:15 o’clock Saturday afternoon, of Bright’s disease, super induced by a stroke of paralysis. Mr. Holden was born December 30, 1849, at Mansfield, PA, the son of Mr. & Mrs. Isaac Holden. In early life he engaged in the restaurant business in Mansfield. He removed to Corning in 1906, where he took over the Miller Hotel, the name of which he changed to the Hotel Holden. On November 10, 1917, Mr. Holden disposed of the hotel to Garret Morse, who has since conducted it. He was formerly a member of the Odd Fellows’ Lodge at Mansfield and also of the Methodist Church at that place. Besides his widow Mr. Holden is survived by three sisters, Mrs. George Dorsett, of Jersey Shore; Miss Carrie Holden, of Buffalo and Corning, and Mrs. L.F.
