Born in West Hickory, Forest County, PA, he was a son of the late John and Mable Lewis. He graduated from Kansas State University with a degree in mechanical engineering and received a PE license from Columbia University in New York. He was a Presbyterian. He was a World War II veteran and served the European Theatre, Africa and Italy. He worked overseas in the Pacific, European and Middle Eastern parts of the world with the Army Corps of Engineers as chief of construction. He was one of the first group of men appointed by Congress to the Executive Service. Survivors besides his wife of 56 years include a brother, Ernest E. Lewis of Topsfield, Mass.; and a sister, Lena Riepple of Mansfield, PA. He was preceded in death by a son, John Brett Lewis; and a daughter, Karen Gail Lewis. Memorial services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday in the chapel of Bullock Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
