Mansfield Advertiser, PA, 6 August 1947, Wednesday, p.1 Madigan - Kennedy Miss Janice Elaine Madigan, daughter of Mr. & Mrs. George William Madigan, of Towanda, was married on Saturday, August 2, to William Wilson Kennedy II, of Towanda, son of Mr. & Mrs. Louis Roy Kennedy. The ceremony took place in the Methodist Church at 1 p.m.. The Rev. Floyd Guiles, pastor of the church, assisted by the Rev. Paul Brown, of Towanda, officiated, using the double ring ceremony. The church was decorated with baskets of gladioli and garden flowers and was lighted by candles in tall candelabra. The bride was given in marriage by Professor George Willard Cass. The bridal gown, fashioned by the bride, was made of brocaded satin. Her long over-the-face tulle veil was held in place by a coronet of pearls with a bandeau of stephanotis. The bride's shower bouquet was of starlit roses and stephanotis. The matron of honor, Mrs. Samuel Kelehner Overcash, of Pittsburgh, wore hyacinth blue taffeta and carried pink roses. The bridesmaids were Miss Catherine Jean Congdon, of Washington, D.C., Miss Mary Kingsley, of Mansfield, Mrs. Merle L. Lovejoy, of Candor, NY, and Mrs. Prentiss Wayne Owens, of West Milton, PA. Miss Congdon wore rose taffeta, Mrs. Lovejoy orchid net and Mrs. Owens yellow chiffon. All the bride's attendants were bandeaus of garden flowers and carried arm Bouquets of roses and garden flowers. Mrs. George William Madigan, mother of the bride, wore a navy blue and white rayon print with navy blue hat. The mother of the groom, Mrs. Louis Roy Kennedy wore aqua crepe and flowered hat. Both mothers wore gardenia corsages. Llewellyn Soper Kennedy acted as best man for his twin brother. Ushers were Oscar Fritz Noss, of West Englewood, NJ, Donald Keith Havens, of Troy, Edward and Earl Selleck, of Mansfield, and Clifton Byron Madigan, brother of the bride, of Towanda. Preceding the ceremony, appropriate organ music was played by Miss Ada Mary Shaw of Mansfield. A violin solo, "Because", was played by Miss Barbara Baldwin, of Mansfield a cousin of the bride. Two solos, "I Love Thee" and "O Promise Me" were sung by Miss Marjorie Ruth Burke, of Philadelphia, who also sang "The Lord's Prayer" during the ceremony. Miss Lois Boardman of Nichols, NY, another cousin of the bride, accompanied Miss Show at the piano for the wedding marches. Following the ceremony a reception for about 150 guests was held at the bride's home at 96 St. James St., Mansfield. Ably assisting at the reception were Mrs. Loren R. Hakes, of Mansfield; Mrs. Morgan A. Kelts, of Westfield; Miss Beryl Boardman, of Nichols, NY; Miss Pauline Schanbacher of Mansfield; Miss Connie Nares, of Mansfield; Mrs. Leslie D. Evans, of Mansfield, and Miss Marjorie Madigan, of Mansfield, sister of the bride. Mrs. Kennedy is a graduate of Mansfield Senior High School and Mansfield State Teachers College, class of 1946, with a B.S. in Home-making Education. At the college she was a member of Student Council, Art Club, Kappa Delta Pi, and Pi Kappa Kappa Epsilon. At present she is an instructor in Home Economics and General Science at the Troy High School. Mr. Kennedy is a graduate of Syracuse University with a B.S. degree in Psychology and Speech. At the university he was a member of Pi Mu Alpha Sinfonia. He served three and one-half years in the U.S. Army Air Forces with eighteen months overseas. He holds the Bronze Star, the E.T.O ribbon with six battles, Presidential unit citation and Belgian Forguierre. He is a member of the Trojan Lodge F&AM No.306. MADIGAN, Janice Elaine [SRGP 34833] - Troy - Janice M. Kennedy, age 97, of Troy, PA, passed away on Monday, November 8, 2021 in Elmira, NY. She was born in April 5, 1924 in Burlington Twp., a daughter of George and Lura [Haight] Madigan. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 13, 2022 at 2 p.m. at Austinville Union Church, 2977 Austinville Rd., Troy, PA with Pastor Kenneth Marple officiating.
