MARVIN, Frank Hughes [SRGP 95283] - Frank H. Marvin, 90, one of Tioga County's leading citizens, died Sunday, October 14, 1951, at his home on South Main Street. A son of Tillie and Elizabeth Hughes Marvin, he was born at Covington, November 29, 1860. He attended Mansfield State Normal School in 1879-1880, and taught two years in Covington Township. For 27 years he operated a meat market at Antrim prior to coming to Mansfield in 1912. He served four years in the Pennsylvania Legislature and for 33 years as secretary of Smythe Park Association. It was largely through Mr. Marvin's interest and untiring efforts that Smythe Park has become one of the beauty spots of the Northern Tier and contributed largely to the success of the Mansfield Fair. Mr. Marvin was a trustee of Blossburg State Hospital for 14 years, a trustee of the First National Bank and served on the election board for many years. He was a member of Friendship Lodge F&AM and a former member of IOOF Lodge at Whitesville. In 1887 Mr. Marvin married Miss Jean Pollock, of Antrim, who died in 1910. He is survived by a niece, Mrs. Hallie Cunningham, of Mansfield. Funeral services were held today at 2 p.m. at the Shaw & Robena Funeral Home, the Rev. David J. Griffiths officiating. Burial was in the Wellsboro Cemetery. - Mansfield Advertiser, 17 October 1951, p.1 |
