__ Mr. H. E. Metcalf, of the furniture firm of Rolason & Metcalf, was missing from his place of business yesterday morning, but the usual box of cigars accounted for his absence. He was married a little after seven o'clock to Miss Laura E. Johnson, a highly respected young lady of this boro, and teacher in the Orphan School. Rev. F.H. Cooper performed the ceremony. Mr. and Mrs. Metcalf left on the 7:56 train for a visit to Rochester and other points of interest. A host of friends join in extending congratulations and wishing the worthy couple much joy. METCALF, Hubbard Elbridie [SRGP 87980] – Former Mansfield Undertaker Dies in Belmont, NY – Hubbard Elbridie Metcalf, aged 90 years, died Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. at the home of his daughter, Mrs. C.F. Mapes, at Belmont, NY. He was born Dec. 13, 1848, in Allegany, PA. His parents were Ralph and Adeline Woodcock Metcalf. He was formerly in business in Mansfield, in the partnership of Rolason & Metcalf. He farmed for a time at Canoe Camp and about 1900 moved to Corning, where he was affiliated with the Allen Foundry until he and E.E. Magee became partners in the hardware business of Magee & Metcalf. In 1908 his wife, formerly Laura E. Johnson, whom he married in Mansfield in 1887, died. The next year Mr. Metcalf took over the Hewlett coal yard in Corning and continued there until the Steuben Coal and Supply Company bought the business. He was a member of the First Methodist Church and Corning Lodge, IOOF. Mr. Metcalf is survived by his daughter at Belmont; one son, Harry H. Metcalf, and two grandsons, Darrel and Gordon Metcalf of Corning; and several nieces and nephews. – Mansfield Advertiser, PA, 15 November 1939, Wednesday, p.5 NYDI Hubbard E.
