MYERS, John F. [SRGP 86495] - One of Mansfield's most active boosters and businessman passed away at the Robert Packer Hospital following a brief illness. John F. Myers, 62, of Mansfield died Jan. 22, 1958. He was a member of the Mansfield Methodist Church and on its official board. Mr. Myers, a native of Iowa, and Mrs. Myers came to Mansfield State Teachers College in 1924 where he was professor of music and Mrs. Myers also taught in the college. In 1938 Mr. Myers left the college to go into the men's clothing business with Merle Garrison. They operated Garrison and Myers Store until 1950 when Mr. Myers bought the insurance business of Mrs. Mae Lane and established the Myers Insurance Agency, which he and Mrs. Myers have continued. Mr. Myers was a past president of the Business Men's Association and always active on its committees. He was a past commander of the Austin-Cox Post, American Legion, member of the Tioga Valley Grange, Friendship Lodge F&AM, and the Coudersport Consistory. At the time of his death he was Treasurer of the Borough of Mansfield, a member of the newly formed Mansfield Joint School Authority and an active member of the Tioga-Bradford-Potter Insurance Agents Assn. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Myrtle Myers, daughter, Mrs. William Fravel of Addison; sister, Mrs. Lynn Clark of Philomath, Ore.; brothers, Rex E. Myers, Alliance, Neb., Hugh Myers of Jacksonville, Fla., Paul Myers of Elsmere, Neb., Fred Myers of Eugene, Ore., and Guy Myers, Corvallis, Ore. The body is at Shaw & Robena Funeral Home where friends may call Thursday and Friday evenings from 7 to 9, and where the funeral will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. The Rev. Donald D. Cronk officiating.
