NEAL Darwin L. "Shiner" (SRGP 10093) 89, of Mansfield, PA, diedJanuary 25, 2008 at Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hospital, Wellsboro, PA. He was born August 31, 1918 in Mansfield, PA. Shiner was the last surviving child of Dr. Leonard and Estella Husted Neal. He was a retired poultry and dairy farmer. By the age of 19 he was a champion poultry farmer and was named 1937 Poultry Boy of the Year. In 1939, he was awarded the degree of American Farmer by Future Farmers of America. Shiner was the owner of Neal's Poultry and Neal's Ice. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Mansfield. Shiner is survived by his beloved wife of nearly 68 years, the former Ina Cooke; three daughters, Darwina Neal of Washington, DC, Marynel Somogy of Elmira, NY, Dawn (Larry) Shellenberger of Philadelphia, PA; a son, Charles (Eleanor) Neal of Mansfield, PA; four grandchildren, Stephen (Michele) Somogy of Everett, WA, Jennifer Somogy of Devon, PA, Matthew (Johna) Neal, and Ryan Jay Neal, both of Mansfield, PA; three great-grandchildren, Stephen, Matilda, and Lucas Somogy; two step grandchildren, Penny Starks and Paul (Joanna) Evans, both of Mansfield, PA; six step great-grandchildren, Serena Starks, Ashley, Tyler, Kasey, Austyn, and Jacob Evans. He was predeceased by brothers, Homer, Byron, and William; and sisters, Elizabeth and Miriam. Friends are invited to call at the Gary W. Wilston Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 130 S. Main St., Mansfield, PA, Monday, 6-8 p.m. and Tuesday, 11 a.m. - noon. Funeral services will follow there Tuesday at noon. Burial in Oakwood Cemetery, Mansfield, PA. Family will provide the flowers. Memorial contributions in Darwin's memory may be made to Laurel Hospice, 24 Walnut St., Wellsboro, PA 16901, or the National Audubon Society, 700 Broadway, NY, NY 10003. |
