NEAL, William J. [SRGP 90775] - William J. Neal, retired Mansfield businessman, died Sunday, April 13, 1952, at the Robert Packer Hospital, Sayre, following an extended illness. Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Helen Pollock Neal; daughter, Mrs. Lawrence Manross of Wheaton, Ill.; and grandchildren, Marvin and Olive Manross. Funeral was held today at 2 p.m.at the Shaw & Robena Funeral Home, the Rev. Lawrence Manross, of Wheaton, Ill., and the Rev. Everett Osterhaut, of Covington, officiating. [SRGP 90775] - Resident of Mansfield for more than half a century, William J. Neal passed away at the Robert Packer Hospital, Sayre, PA, on Sunday, April 13, 1952, following an illness of several months. Born in Blossburg on January 1, 1881, adopted son of his grandparents, William and Elizabeth Harer Neal. Mr. Neal spent his boyhood on the farm of his grandparents near Liberty, PA. He was a graduate of the class of 1900 of the Mansfield Normal School where he was a member of the Delphic fraternity. For a period of nine years from 1901-1910, Mr. Neal was employed in the C.H. Lugg Department Store at Coudersport and for two years by the T.W. Judge Co. in Mansfield. In 1912 he purchased the retail shoe store of Mr. Homer Kingsley, which business he continued until his retirement in 1947. For many years a faithful member of the local Methodist church, where he served on the Board of Trustees as Sunday School Superintendent and teacher of the College Young People's Class and later of the Adult Bible Class. Mr. Neal was associated with the Tioga County Pennsylvania Sabbath School Association which he served in the capacity of President, Secretary and Young People's Superintendent. For the past three years he attended the Covington Baptist Church where he taught the Adult Bible Class when his health permitted. Mr. Neal has been long known in the Community as a man of high integrity coupled with his firm belief in the Holy Scriptures as the only infallible guide for faith and practice and in the Lord Jesus Christ as his personal Saviour and Lord. Surviving are his widow, Helen Pollock Neal, youngest daughter of the late James Pollock, Superintendent of the Fall Brook Coal Co., at Antrim, PA, whom Mr. Neal married on August 9, 1916; one daughter, Jean Neal Manross, of Wheaton, Ill.; two grandchildren, Marvin and Olive Manross; two half-brothers and four half-sisters, Oliver and Maynard Schmelzle and Mrs. Allen Cox, of Ogdensburg, PA, Mrs. Dillon Stone, Canton, PA, Mrs. Burdett Porter, Williamsport, and Mrs. Edward Lodge, of Newberry, PA. Funeral services were held at the Shaw & Robena Funeral parlors on April 16th, with the Rev. Lawrence N. Manross, Ph. D., son-in-law to the deceased officiating, assisted by the Rev. Everett Osterhaut, pastor of the Covington Baptist Church. Interment was at Union Cemetery near Liberty. Pall-bearers were Mr. Ronald Brace, the Rev.
