Palmer Mitchell – b. 23 November 1914, Tioga Co., PA; d. 8 December 2014, Painted Post, Steuben Co., NY; Burial – Coopers Plains Cemetery, Coopers Plains, Steuben Co., NY PALMER – Ruth E. - Ruth E. Mitchell, age 100, of Painted Post, NY, passed away peacefully Mon, Dec 8, 2014, at home surrounded by her loving family. Ruth was born Nov 23, 1914, in Farmington Twp., PA, to the late Charles L. and Wilda (Leadbetter) Palmer. On Feb 14, 1935, Ruth and James C. Mitchell were married in Sunbury, PA. James preceded her in death on Oct 10, 1979. Ruth was a Christian and a member of First Presbyterian Church (United Church of Painted Post) for 75 years, where she was an elder and a honorary life member Presbyterian Women. She was a beautiful seamstress making clothes, bears, quilts, and holiday decorations. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother (GG), sister, aunt, and caregiver. Ruth enjoyed gardening, cooking and baking, and playing Hand and Foot or Dominos with a special group of friends. She retired from Rotary Gas Station, Corning, NY, as a manager in 1974. Mrs. Mitchell was a past matron of the Odakonya Chapter, No. 633 Order of the Eastern Star and an American Red Cross volunteer. Ruth is survived by her daughter, Helen (Wayne) Bailey of Painted Post, NY; sister, Betty Decker of Oxford, NY; granddaughters: Beth (Raymond) Thomas of Canandaigua, NY, and Amie (Mark) Reif of Lewisburg, PA; great-grandchildren: Grace and Grant Thomas, and Samantha, Calvin, and Sarah Reif. Besides her husband, Ruth was predeceased in death by her sisters: Agnes Cooper and Aileen Tyler. Calling hours will be Sat, Dec 20, 2014, from 1:30-2:30pm at United Church of Painted Post, 201 N. Hamilton St, Painted Post, NY, with the memorial service to immediately follow. Pastor Glenn Kennedy will officiate. Burial will be in Coopers Plains Cemetery.
