Charles S. Ross, eldest son of Andrew J. Ross, was born in Mansfield, Tioga county, February 14, 1857. He was educated in the State Normal School, from which he graduated in 1876. Immediately afterwards he entered the banking house of Ross & Williams, as a representative of his father’s interest, and in the summer of 1878 he succeeded to the place in that firm made vacant by his father’s death. After the death of Mr. Williams in July, 1894, Mr. Ross carried on the business as surviving partner, until January 1,1895, when he became the sole proprietor, but continued under the old firm name. In politics, Mr. Ross is a Republican, but has never sought or held office. [1897 History] ROSS, Charles S. - Charles S. Ross, aged 83 years, for many years prominent in the business life of Mansfield, died at 9 p.m. May 13, after a long illness. A son of Andrew J. and Sarah McKune Ross, he was born in Mansfield, Feb. 14, 1857. He was graduated from the Mansfield Normal School in 1876 and entered the banking house of Ross & Williams as a representative of his father's interests, and in the summer of 1878 he succeeded to the place in that firm made vacant by his father's death. After the death of the partner, Philip Williams, in July 1894, Mr. Ross carried on the business as surviving partner until Jan. 1, 1895, when he became the sole proprietor but continued under the old firm name. When the bank was changed to the First National Bank, Mr. Ross was elected president and held that office for many years. He also served as president of the Board of Trustees of the Mansfield State Normal School and Smythe Park Association. Surviving are a nephew, Charles W. Ross, and a grand-nephew, Edward Ross, of Mansfield. The funeral was held Thursday. Rev. J.
