SAXTON, Isabelle [SRGP 06442] – Mrs. Isabelle S. Wood passed away at her home on Sherwood street Thursday evening at 10:15, following an illness of about three weeks. The funeral was held at the home Monday at 2 p.m., the Rev. J.R. Harris, pastor of the Presbyterian Church, officiating; interment in the family plot in Prospect cemetery. Mrs. Wood was the daughter of Adolphus and Janet Catlin Saxton, and was born in Granville Township, Bradford county, June 17, 1869. On Jun 13, 1897, she was united in marriage to Dr. F.G. Wood, of Mansfield, and they came at once to Mansfield to make their home. Three children were born to them, Harold S., now of Washington, D.C.; Hallock and Helen at home. Dr. Wood passed away April 6, 1917. Possessing a charming personality and a sincere Christian character, Mrs. Wood won the hearts of all who knew her. Her ready smile has cheered many a troubled heart and her wise counsel helped many over difficulties. She was an ideal mother, a chum to her children, and a neighbor that will be sadly missed. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church and its various organizations, in which she was an enthusiastic worker. For a number of years she was a member of the Mansfield School Board, having been elected to that body several times and held the office of treasurer for some time, until she resigned last fall to go to South Orange with her daughter, Helen. She was a member of the Mansfield Literary Club, Women’s Republican Council and Wellsboro Chapter, D.A.R. The large number of neighbors and friends who came to pay their last respects Monday afternoon, and the profuse floral offerings, bespoke the esteem in which she was held. Besides her children she is survived by two grandchildren, Betty and Catherine Wood, of Washington, D.C. – Mansfield Advertiser, 13 August 1930 SAXTON - Mrs. Isabelle Saxton Wood, [SRGP 06442] aged 61 years, died August 7, at 10:15 p.m., at her home in Mansfield after an illness of three weeks.
