Army Served 7 Aug 1942 - 29 Jun 1946 Served Overseas 14 Dec 1943 - 13 Dec 1943 Buried in East Point Cemetery in Liberty, PA Gerald C. Age 85 years of Mansfield, PA, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, died of cancer at the Green Home, Wellsboro, PA, on Monday, September 5, 2005. He was born June 21, 1920 in Blossburg, PA, a son of Orville L. and Martha A. Rauscher Schanbacher. Gerry is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, the former Ferne Terry; two sons, Terry L. of Litchfield, CT, and Robert L. of Cogan Station, PA; two daughters, Sandra L. Beagan of Mansfield, MA, and Jill A. Howarth of Westborough, MA; sister, Joyce A. Gilbert of Mt. Carmel, CT; and 11 grandchildren. He was predeceased by two sons, Ronald L. and Richard Dale; sisters, Gladys P. Mase, Winnie A. Black, Genevieve E. Stone, B. Pauline Bradshaw; and brothers, Harold L. and Chester A. Gerry was a World War II Army veteran. He was a Captain having served in the European Theatre, Battle of the Bulge. Mr. Schanbacher operated his family's business, the Mansfield Novelty Company and sawmill until 1997. He was a member of the Mansfield United Methodist Church where he served faithfully as the Sunday School Superintendent for 38 years. He was active in civic affairs, having served as a member of the Water Authority and officer of the Southern Tioga School Board for fourteen years. Gerry loved hunting, and was a member of the Laurel Hill Game and Forestry Club for 52 years. He was also a member of Friendship Lodge #247 F&AM, the Williamsport Consistory, and Knights of Pythias for 50 years. Friends are invited to call at the Gary W. Wilston Funeral Home, 18 N. Main St., Mansfield, PA, Friday, and at the First United Methodist Church of Mansfield, Saturday, 10-11 a.m. Funeral services will follow at the Church Saturday at 11:00 a.m. with Rev.
