Schanbacher, Orville L. (SRGP 83416) - Orville L. Schanbacher, 77 died Monday night, June 16 at his home in Mansfield. Mr. Schanbacher, a retired merchant and manufacturer, head of the Mansfield Novelty Company when it was the world's largest top maker was a former member of the Mansfield Borough Council, of the Cameron Mills Lodge No. 547, F & AM the Imperial Temple of the Mystic Shrine of Wilkes-Barre, the Williamsport Consistory, and a life member of the Liberty Valley Lodge No. 249, Knights of Pythias.He was a past noble grand of Mansfield Odd Fellows Lodge, and a member of the Laurel Hill Fish and Game Club and the Zion Lutheran Church at Sebring. Surviving are his wife, Jennie; daughters, Mrs. Gladys Mase and Mrs. Winifred Black, of Liberty; Mrs. Genevieve Stone, of Harve de Grace, Md.; Mrs. Joyce Carlyle and Mrs. Pauline Bradshaw, of Mansfield, sons, Harold, of Liberty; Chester and Gerald, of Mansfield; Bruce Silliman of Trout Run; 25 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. Prayer services will be held at the Shaw and Robena Funeral Home at 2 p.m. today, followed by funeral services at the Liberty Lutheran Church at 3 p.m. Burial will be in East Point cemetery. [SRGP 83416] - Orville L. Schanbacher, 77, prominent lumberman and businessman, died Monday, June 16, 1952, at his home on South Main Street. A son of John F. and Sarah Leinhardt Schanbacher, he was born Oct. 14, 1874, in Liberty Township. June 29, 1898, he married Miss Martha Rauscher, who died in January, 1938. Oct. 3, 1939, he married Mrs. Jennie Sillman, who survives. Mrs. Schanbacher began his career in the lumbering business when a young man and continued until his retirement in 1948. He conducted a general store and post office at East Point until 1920, when the family moved to Liberty. In 1923 Mr. Schanbacher and the late Lewis Obourn purchased the Mansfield Novelty Company from Charles S. Ross. A short time later, upon the death of Mr. Obourn, Mr. Schanbacher took over the entire business. Walter Schanbacher joined the firm in 1928 and was manager of the purchasing department. Upon Mr. Schanbacher's retirement in 1948 he turned the business over to his children. The family moved to Mansfield in 1926. Mr. Schanbacher was elected to several terms on the Mansfield Borough Council, where he served on the various committees. He was a director of the Farmers National Bank of Liberty for more than 30 years. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church of Sebring; Cameron Mill Lodge 547 F&AM; Williamsport Consistory; Imperial Temple of the Mystic Shrine, Wilkes-Barre; a life member of Liberty Valley Lodge 249, Knights of Pythias; a past noble grand of Mansfield Lodge 526, IOOF; and Laurel Hill Game and Forestry Club. Besides his wife, Mr. Schanbacher is survived by daughters, Mrs. Gladys Mase and Mrs. Winifred Black, of Liberty; Mrs. Genevieve Stone, of Havre Grace, MD; Mrs. Joyce Carlyle and Mrs. Pauline Bradshaw, of Mansfield; son, Harold Schanbacher, of Liberty; Chester and Gerald, of Mansfield, and Bruce Sillman, of Trout Run; 25 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren; sister, Mrs. Grace Olinger of Kushequa, and brother, Rading Schanbacher, of Lebanon; several nieces and nephews. The body is at the Shaw & Robena Funeral Home, where friends may call and where a prayer service will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. Funeral at 3 at the Lutheran Church at Liberty, the Rev. W.K.
