After they closed the restaurant, they sold real estate. Cynthia died of cancer. Adolph remarried. SCHLAPPI, 85, died at home June 18, 1998. He was born December 26, 1912, in Currensville, Pa, the son of Dr. Adolph and Fammine (Merriam) Schlappi. Mr. Schlappi, husband and father, possessed a sensitive and generous nature. He loved the out-of-doors and had a passion for creating that matched his diverse interests. He will be missed by his loving and numerous friends. He was employed by Tri-County Electric, was a restaurant owner, and a real estate agent. He was a veteran of WWII serving in the US Army Air Corps, a member of Troy Masonic Lodge (32 degree Mason, Scottish Rite), a member of Troy American Legion Post 49, and a life-long Presbyterian. Surviving are: wife, Mildred Billingsley Schlappi, Troy, PA: daughters, Joan (Robert) Allen with grandchildren: Jake, Josh and Joselyn, Elmira, NY, June Schlappi, Elmira, NY; and Judith (Dr. Salfred) Mancini, Pittsburgh, PA: step-children: Ann (Jeff) Sorel, New Harford, CT; Robert (Debbie) Billingsley, New Hartford, CT; Richard Billingsley, Lynnville, TN; seven grandchildren and one great-granddaughter; sister, Helen (Robert) Bower; nieces, Sandra (Jim) Olson and Peggy Bower, Minneapolis, MN; sister-in-law, Marion Schlappi, Canton, PA; niece, Sharon (Robert) Stackhouse, Troy, PA; and nephew, John (Teresa) Schlappi, Ralston, PA. Predeceased by his first wife, Cynthia Bahr Schlappi in 1981, and brother Charles F. Schlappi in 1992. A memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family with Rev. Kenneth Marple officiating, interment will be in Sylvania, PA. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Chemung County Association of Retarded Citizens, 711 Sullivan St., Elmira, NY. -Canton Independent Sentinel. |
