STEVENS, Charles N. [SRGP 84152] - Charles N. Stevens, a life-long resident of Tioga County, died Saturday, August 8, 1942, at 1:30 p.m. at the home of his daughter, Mrs. W.E. Edgerton, on Prospect Street, following an illness of seven months. A son of Nelson and Emma Thompson Stevens, he was born April 8, 1875, in Deerfield Township. He spent the most of his life in Knoxville, where he served as postmaster for 11 years. he was a member of the Methodist Church of Knoxville. In 1899 he married Miss Cynthia Shewman and two children were born to them, a son, Charles Curtis Stevens, who died in infancy, and Mrs. W.E. Edgerton, with whom he had made his home for nine years. Mrs. Stevens died several years ago. Besides his daughter he is survived by three grandsons, Walter, John, and James Edgerton, of Mansfield; a brother, the Rev. W.H. Stevens, of Waterloo, NY; and two sisters, Mrs. Katherine Matteson, of Nunda, NY, and Mrs. B.F. Croft, of Strykersville, NY. Funeral services were held Monday at 2 p.m. at the Griggs Funeral Home in Knoxville, the Rev. David J. Griffiths, pastor of the Mansfield Baptist Church, officiating.
