Betty Virginia Sweely = 38663 The Daily Item, Sunbury, PA, 3 June 1943, Thursday, p.14 G. Rothermel, Miss Sweeley Plight Troth Announcement was made today of the marriage of Glen U. Rothermel of Sunbury and Miss Betty Sweely of Rutland, the ceremony having been performed Tuesday, May 15 at the Roseville Methodist Church by the Rev. C.D. Travis. Decorating the altar were pink gladioli and white snapdragons arranged with a background of evergreens and palms. Preceding the ceremony Mrs. Donald Benson of Mansfield sang two solos, accompanied by Mrs. Thomas Harris of Roseville who also played traditional wedding music. The bride, given in marriage by her father, wore a gown of white satin with finger tip veil and carried a bouquet of white roses, gardenias and stevia. Her maid of honor, Miss Shirley Rothermel, a sister of the bridegroom, wore yellow marquisette and carried blue iris and white daisies. The bridesmaids, the Misses Helen Gould, Barbara Holcomb, Shirley Stephens and Lorene Soper wore gown of yellow and blue carrying bouquets of daffodils and white daisies. Wellwood Soper of Mansfield, served as best man. Ushers were Merle Daggett, Martin Daggett, Lester Coop and George Hughes. Following the ceremony a reception for 150 guests was held at the home of the bride's parents. The bride, daughter of Mr. & Mrs. William Sweely of Rutland, is a graduate of Mansfield High School and Elmira Business Institute and has been employed by the American La France Foamite Corporation, Elmira. Mr. Rothermel, son of Mr. & Mrs. L.R. Rothermel, Sunbury, is a graduate of Sunbury High School and is employed by the American Bridge Co. at Ambridge. The couple will reside at 614 Locust Place, Sewickley. Find a Grave Betty V. Rothermel, active in Elmira Little Theater, age 74 of Elmira, NY passed gracefully to her Lord April 1, 1998 at her home. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law: William R. & Sonia Rothermel of CA; grandsons: Paul and Steve Rothermel also of CA. Also a host of very close and caring friends. She was predeceased by her loving husband Glenn Rothermel and beloved son Randall Rothermel and her parents, William and Margaret Sweeley. Family and friends are invited to call at the Olthof Funeral Home, Inc. 1050 Penna. Ave. Elmira, NY Sunday 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Funeral and Committal Services will be held there Monday at 2:00 p.m. The Rev. Dr. James Bellamy will officiate. Interment will be privately in the Woodlawn Cemetery, Elmira, NY. Betty was a member of the Roseville United Methodist Church, Roseville, PA. She was very active in the Elmira Little Theater. Betty treasured the beautiful days she spent with family on Keuka Lake. She was very proud of her beautiful home here in Elmira.
