Betty Jane Sargent = 85258 [Joe Thompson] Mansfield Advertiser, PA, 17 September 1952, Wednesday, p.8 Sargent - Thompson Mr. & Mrs. Frank Sargent of Mansfield, RD, announce the marriage of their daughter, Betty Jane to Joseph Thompson, son of Mr. & Mrs. C. Morris Thompson of Mansfield, Saturday August 30, 1952 The double ring ceremony was performed by the Rev. L.E. Thomas at the Baptist Memorial Church, Bennettville, SC. Mr. & Mrs. Donald Benson of Mansfield were their only attendants. The bride chose a powder blue suit with navy accessories and a corsage of red rosebuds. Mrs. Benson chose a cream colored suit, with black accessories and a corsage of red rosebuds. Mrs. Thompson is a graduate of the Mansfield Senior High School Class of 1951 and is now employed by Hartsock's Bakery, Mansfield. Mr. Thompson served with the armed forces in German and is now employed by Morris Farms. The couple will reside at 100 West Wellsboro Street, Mansfield. THOMPSON, Joseph Swan - Joseph "Joe" Swan Thompson, Sr., age 85, of Mansfield, PA, died Saturday, November 18, 2017 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born September 24, 1932 in Mansfield, PA, a son of Louise and Casper Morris Thompson. He married his wife of 65 years, Betty (Sargent) on August 30, 1952. Joe graduated from Mansfield High School and Williamsport Community College. He began working at his family business, Morris Farms, delivering milk. He then went on working as a heavy equipment operator and fire investigator. Joe was a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers; the Mansfield Hose Co. and Ambulance Assoc., including Chief for many years; the American Legion; the Richmond Township Zoning Hearing Board; and the Community of Grace Fellowship Church in Lambs Creek. He enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren, traveling, watching nature from his kitchen window, hunting, and working on his John Deere tractors. Joe was a U. S. Army veteran. In addition to his wife, Betty, he is survived by daughter Nancy Thompson (William Taylor) of Yarmonth, ME; son Joe Thompson (Eileen) of Mansfield, PA; daughter Judy Brookens (Tim) of Fayetteville, PA; daughter Sarah Nittinger (John) of Mansfield, PA; daughter Kathleen Lindenmuth (John) of Mansfield, PA; daughter Sandy Weaver (Jim) of State College, PA; grandchildren, Louise Lynch, Maggie Taylor, Daren Thompson, Tyler Thompson, Ashley Brookens, Emily Heck, Leah Garrison, Kimberlee VanGorden, Brian Garrison, Loren Slater, Austin Slater, Megan Slater, and Miles Weaver; 14 great grandchildren, and brothers of the heart, Tom McConnell and Jack Rieppel. He was predeceased by two sisters, Mary Swan McElroy and Louise Thompson Walker, one brother, Casper Morris Thompson, Jr. Family and friends are invited to call on Saturday, December 2, 2017 from 1:00 P.M. to 3:00 P.M. at Buckheit Funeral Chapel and Crematory, Inc., 637 S. Main St., Mansfield, PA. Funeral services will follow at 3:00 P.M. at the funeral chapel with Rev. Guy Thompson officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Mansfield, PA. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Joe's memory to the Lamb Creek Community of Grace Church.
