BENSON, SUSIE VAN NESS (SRGP 3804) Mrs. Susie Van Ness Benson, aged 62, passed away Monday evening at 9:00 o’clock at her home on Sherwood Street, following an illness of four months. Mrs. Benson was the daughter of John and Louise Wilson Van Ness and was born near Mansfield, April 28, 1871. She graduated from the Mansfield State Normal School in the class of 1890 and for several years taught in the schools of tioga county, later taking up piano teaching. June 25, 1910, she was united in marriage to Manley Benson. During her life, lived entirely in this vicinity, Mrs. Benson was known only for her beautiful Christian character and her desire to be of help to others. Always courteous and kind to everyone she made friends of all with whom she came in contact and her death takes from the community one of its most highly esteemed citizens. She was a member of the Methodist Church (two lines missing) unstintingly of her time and money in their interests. For several years she has been teacher of the Tabitha Class of the Sunday School and held offices in the various societies of the church. A prayer service was held today at 1:30 p.m., at her late home, the Rev. D. W. Baylis officiating; interment in Prospect Cemetery. Besides her husband, she is survived by one sister, Mrs. Bessie Seeley of Mansfield. VanNESS, Susie [SRGP 03804] -Mrs. Susie Van Ness Benson, aged 62 years, died July 10 at her home in Mansfield. She was born in Mansfield April 28, 1871, daughter of John and Louisa Wilson Van Ness. In 1890 Mrs. Benson was graduated from Mansfield State Normal School and for several years taught school in Tioga county. Later she taught piano. Mrs. Benson was a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church. She was married to Manley Benson June 25, 1871, who survives. Besides her husband she leaves a sister, Mrs. Bessie Seeley of Mansfield.
