Description |
Corey Creek Dairy and Stock Farm at the Mansfield Fair Print of photo on postcard From Mansfield Advertiser COREY CREEK STOCK FARM Second Annual Public Sale of Jersey Cattle Corey Creek Dairy and Stock Farm, the property of Mr. J. M. Clark, two miles east of this boro, is the delight of all who visit it. The splendid buildings, the magnificent herd of Jersey cattle, complete dairy equipment, and the general lair of thrift and prosperity about the place, appeal irresistibly to all, whether they be themselves tillers of the soil or townspeople with no knowledge of agriculture save what comes from books. Those who have visited Mr. Clark's place or have seen his stock on exhibition at the Mansfield fair, the mere announcement that his second annual public sales of Jerseys will be held Jan. 11th, beginning at 1 o'clock, will suffice to attract them thither on that date, but to those who have been less fortunate a few additional words may prove of interest. It is now established custom to hold once a year one of these public sales to dispose of the issue of the large number of cows regularly kept upon the place. This year twenty-five choice, young, registered animals will be offered, all from choice cows, and all the get of the matchless milk and butter sire, Choepeta's son, No. 29,208, whose dam, Choepeta, No. 13,851, made 15 pounds of butter in seven days, and whose paternal grand dam, Maggie Sheldon, had a butter record of 21 pounds and 5 ounces in seven days. It is not alone on the sire's side that the stock to be sold is desirable, for it must be remembered that the mothers of these heifers last year made the remarkable record of 335 pounds of butter per cow and the year before the hardly less noteworthy record of 325 pounds per cow. A feature of this sale will be the opportunity afforded all who desire to do so to examine the stock in advance of the day of sale and also to see their mothers, their father, and the other stock upon this model dairy and stock farm. As stated upon the posters announcing the sale, this will indeed be a rare opportunity to procure thoroughbred Jerseys of the finest breeding. In the absence of Mr. Clark at Harford, Susquehanna county, as manager of one of the State's Soldiers' Orphans' schools, the Corey Creek farm is in charge of Mr. J.E. Gray, a dairy manager and breeder of long and successful experience. |
