DOANE, Dr. John H. Dr. Doane Dies in Florida - Dr. John H. Doane, 79, of Forsythia Hills, Idetown, Pa. (Dallas) died Feb. 21, 1967 at the home of his son, Dr. Joseph Doane in W. Palm Beach, Fla. Dr. Doane was born in Mansfield, Aug. 16, 1887. He was a graduate of Mansfield High School, Mansfield State College and the University of Pennsylvania Medical School. He interned at Philadelphia General Hospital. He practiced medicine in Mansfield for a number of years. At the beginning of World War I he enlisted in the Army Medical Crops and served as Captain. At the end of the war Dr. Doane returned to his practice in Mansfield until the beginning of World War II when he reentered the Army Medical Corps and served as a Colonel. He affiliated with the Veteran's Administration at the end of the war and moved to Wilkes-Barre, where he had resided since. He retired in 1957. For a time he was college physician at Wiles College. After retirement, he was given the honorary rank of Brigadier General.He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Wilkes-Barre, Friendship Lodge, F & AM of Mansfield, Irem Temple of Wilkes-Barre. Surviving are his wife, the former Gertrude Allen; three sons, Dr. John Doane of Glenside, Pa., Dr. Wilton A. Doane of Santa Barbara, Calif. And Dr. Joseph Doane of W. Palm Beach, Fla; one daughter, Mrs. Sylvia Milne of Wellsley Hills, Mass.; brother Dr. Joseph Doane of St. Petersburg, Fla, two sisters, Miss Alice and Miss Stella Doane of Dallas, Pa.; several grandchildren. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday at the First Presbyterian Church in Wilkes-Barre, the Rev. Dr. Jule Ayers officiating. A memorial service will be held in the Mansfield Baptist Church at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, with interment in the Prospect Cemetery. The Rev. D.J. Griffiths will officiate at the service.
