Army Served 12 Oct 1918 - 11 Dec 1918 Buried in Oakwood Cemetery in Mansfield, Tioga, PA Fred JUPENLAZ Dies At S&S Hospital (SRGP 06968) Fred A. Jupenlaz, 79, a well known Mansfield resident and retired area educator, died Wednesday, April 26, 1978, in soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hospital, Wellsboro. Mr. Jupenlaz was a principal of Covington School for 10 years and a professor at the former Mansfield Normal School and teacher in Elmira, N.Y., schools. Chairman of the board of trustees of Mansfield State College for 12 years, he also was director of the Tioga County Red Cross Chapter. He was born at Mansfield on September 15, 1898, a son of Paul and Jennie Smith Jupenlaz.He was a member of the First United Methodist church, Mansfield. A veteran of World War I, Mr. Jupenlaz was a member and past commander of the Austin Cox American Legion Post, Mansfield. He was also a former chaplain of the 16th District of the American Legion. During World War II, Mr. Jupenlaz served as a Red Cross field director in Africa.Mr. Jupenlaz was a member of Friendship Lodge, F&AM, Mansfield. Surviving are his wife, the former Margaret Howe; a son, Frederick, of Los Angeles, Calif.; two daughters, Mrs. Marian Austin of Pine City, N.Y., and Mrs. Joseph (Betty) Suszko of Williamsport; a half sister, Miss Margaret Rathbun, of Brandon, Fla.; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. The funeral was held Saturday at the Kuh. Funeral Home in Mansfield, with the Rev. David Weaver, his pastor, officiating. Burial was in Oakwood Cemetery. JUPENLAZ, FRED A. He is survived by his wife, Margaret Howe Jupenlaz; one son, Frederick of Los Angeles, Ca,; two daughters, Mrs. Marion Austin of Pine City, N.Y., Mrs. Joseph (Betty) Suszko of Williamsport, Pa,, one half sister, Miss Margaret Rathbun of Branden, Fla.; 4 granddaughters; 6 great-grandchildren. He was a member of Mansfield Methodist Church; Mansfield Lions Club and Kiwanis; Friendship Lodge F&AM Mansfield; member and past commander of Austin Cox Post No. 478, American Legion, Mansfield; past chaplain of 16th district American Legion, Pennsylvania; director of American Red Cross for Tioga County PA. He was Principal of Covington School for 10 years. Chairman of Board of Trustees, Mansfield State College for 12 years.
