LEACH, Walter B. [SRGP 92438] - Walter B. Leach, 64, of South Academy St., died unexpectedly Wednesday, July 18, 1956, at Woodland Camp in the Catskills near Phoenicia, NY. Since June 21, Mr. & Mrs. Leach had been touring the New England States and Canada and the morning of July 8 left the home of their daughter, Mrs. J.K. Palmer at Ansonia, Conn. Death was caused by coronary thrombosis. A son of Harvey B. and Irene Wheeler Leach, he was born at Blossburg January 25, 1892. He graduated from Mansfield State Normal School, class of 1910, and Mt. Alto State Forest School, class of 1914. He was employed by the Pennsylvania Department of Forests and Waters from 1911 to 1942. He retired in 1942 and moved to Mansfield in 1944. He enlisted in the armed forces Sept. 18, 1917, and received his honorable discharge April 21, 1919. He served in Headquarters Co. 314th Infantry 79th Division with the rank of Sergeant. He held the Purple Heart for injuries suffered at Montfaucon. Mr. Leach was a member of Friendship Lodge 247, F&AM, Mansfield, the Coudersport Consistory, was a trustee of the First Presbyterian Church, a member of Austin-Cox Post 478, American Legion, an officer of the Pennsylvania chapter NFA, and a director of the Pennsylvania Pure Water Association. July 26, 1924 he was married to the former Annamary Dean of South Williamsport, who with the following children survive him, sons Lt. Walter Leach, Jr., Dothan, Ala., and Charles D. Leach of Lewistown, PA; daughter, Mrs. J.K. Palmer of Ansonia, Conn.; sister, Mrs. David Bachman of Dover, Del., six grandchildren. Funeral was held Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Shaw & Robena Funeral Home, the Rev. John Ross Rays officiating. Burial was in Keeneyville Cemetery.
